Azure Key Vault

Secrets, keys, and certificates for Azure workloads

Official documentation (opens in a new tab)

Overview

Azure Key Vault safeguards cryptographic keys, secrets, and certificates used by cloud applications— with access policies, auditing, and HSM-backed options for regulated workloads.

ConnectSoft Factory and ASP.NET Core services on Microsoft Azure load connection strings, API keys, and signing material from Key Vault via managed identities, not configuration files checked into Git. Azure App Configuration and deployment pipelines reference vault URIs per environment so dev, staging, and production stay isolated without copy-paste secrets.

For client engagements we enforce least-privilege RBAC, rotation runbooks, and private endpoints where networks require it—aligning with Microsoft Entra ID and Application Insights audit trails so security reviewers see a single, governed secrets plane.

If your platform still scatters secrets across app settings or manual Key Vault clicks, we standardize vault layout and CI/CD integration so releases stay compliant and boring.

Why we use it:

  • Managed identities for ASP.NET Core, Functions, and workers—no secrets in repos
  • Separate vaults or prefixes per environment and tenant
  • Certificate auto-renewal for TLS and signing use cases
  • RBAC and private endpoint patterns for production landing zones
  • Audit logs integrated with Azure Monitor and operational alerts
  • Pairs with Azure App Configuration and Bicep/Pulumi provisioning
  • Factory templates document required secrets before first deploy
